Based on the AZA, 32% of families make over $100,000. While that is important, we would like to focus on the majority 68%. Since they make less than $100,000, they will be less willing to buy the zoo’s membership since it will affect them more financially. In order to bring additional value to them, we would like to improve their experience at the zoo by using a technology that they own: the smartphone. From the Silent Generation to Millennials, the amount of people who own a smartphone has increased every year since 2011. Instead of making our visitors and members buy another piece of technology that can enhance their experience, we can use something that they already own to do the same.
But first, we wanted to see if our users wanted an app. We sent out a survey throughout social media and relating to questions about the Philly Zoo app. 93% of our respondents were receptive to the idea that the Zoo would benefit from a free application that includes features ranging from an interactive map to 24/7 streams. When we asked about if users would pay extra for features like the 24/7 streams, 25% said they would while 48% said they would consider the idea.
These stats show that SocialScope has an opportunity to give the audience of the Philadelphia Zoo a digital experience that can transform and compliment their visit to the zoo.
