When I first began the UX class in our Summer 1 semester I never really thought about the experience people are going through when opening an app or visiting a website. Everything you see and click on has a meaning in your head, but it is so natural that you really do not think more in depth about it. The Dunkin Donuts app experience was the first thing that came to mind for me when thinking about how I use the app and what features I like and dislike. Certain features such as the fonts and colors, different perks and the checkout option is very easy to use and some of my favorite parts of this app.
The Dunkin Donuts color work beyond well together and I liked that they kept the font of the logo incorporated on the app. For instance, all the small circles that say, “New” and “3x points” are in the same font which makes it pop a little bit more. The screens are all the same design and the colors flow well together and are appealing to the eye which make the experience more enjoyable. Another great feature of the overall design is that when they have a loading page they use the Dunkin Donut coffee cup as the loading symbol, either with the circle spinning around it or just having the coffee cup spin. Springboard blog states that, “The design isn’t just tasteful, its functional and simple to navigate.” I could not describe the app any better.
Dunkin makes it easy to know how many point you have and how many more you need in order to receive some of their perks such as a free coffee or donut. At the top of the home screen of the app there is a bar that tells you how many points you have and how many points you need. It also gives you features on the home page that show different items worth more points or any specials going on. This kind of makes the app and the experience of using it like a game. I feel the urge to go to Dunkin and make the line fill completely up. This is a great way to great people coming back and it is satisfying when you hit that number of points!
Checking out is so easy with the scan/pay feature at the bottom of the app in the sub menu. They make it fast and easy to scan when going through the drive thru or walking into the store. They also make it easy to download different gift cards onto the app or connect your debit or credit card. Overall, this app is easy and great to use. Not only from a design standpoint but from a marketing standpoint and that is why I use it so often!
