Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the future of technology. AI is growing and developing further each and every day. Dr. Kai Fu Lee, an AI oracle and venture capitalist said, “AI is going to change the world more than anything in history of mankind. More than electricity.” Many industries can benefit from AI such as manufacturing, education, transportation, media, and customer service.
Deep learning is one of the features to this unique technology. It involves using large data sets and allowing machines to learn from it. It can even recreate or acknowledge the text or images that it learns.
Natural Language Processing is another field of AI. Machines are broken down and translate human language. Chatbots are a prime example of this. Many companies use chat bots on their websites to assist visitors if they have any questions or concerns. These chatbots learn from what the human is typing in. Robotics is a third branch to AI that has really taken off in the recent years. A lot of R & D goes into the components and both mechanical and electrical engineers work together to construct these robot devices. Usually robots are designed to perform and complete tasks that can take place for a human.
The health care sector is definitely already benefitting from artificial intelligence. It is making the jobs of doctors, hospitals personnel, and specialists a lot easier. Luckily, this also makes the lives of patients easier as well! Misdiagnosing illnesses and making medical errors can definitely be a problem for a number of patients and have even led to many deaths. Some medical cases are difficult to solve mistakes are made but AI can facilitate the diagnostic process. It could help find links between genetic coding, use algorithms to diagnose breast cancer, reduce error in diagnosis, create methods for treatment, and so much more.
Personally, I know I want a technology or software like this to help me be diagnosed or treated successfully. For more than three years now, I have been trying to solve a mystery of what condition I have. I have a diagnosis temporarily, but we don’t even know if it is true. I hope one day that AI can help save me from the pain and suffering I go through on a daily basis. I have tried so many medications, treatment plans, surgeries and procedures but nothing has really worked out for me. If a medical professional can’t solve it, then maybe AI will be able to.
Examples of AI HealthCare Systems
- Oncora Medical
This start up company started in Philadelphia with one of the co-founders being a student a the University of Pennsylvania. Oncora is focused on radiation therapy and assisting doctors create radiation treatment plans for cancer patients. Data and imaging are both the foundation of the AI working to give the doctors possible patient outcomes.
- Google Health & DeepMind
Google partnered with DeepMind to “build products that support care teams and improve patient outcomes.” They want to help cancer patients as well, but they have more in mind.
- CloudMedX Health
This solution started in Silicon Valley and it involves using predictive analysis resulting in possible patient and financial outcomes. It uses both deep learning and Natural Language Processing to give all of the clinical insights. These insights can help medical personnel assist their patients and make decisions from there. Last year, they even won the Best Overall Connected Health Solution for the GITEX awards.
AI, in my opinion, is going to get even smarter as the years go on. Machine learning is going to improve and we will have access to even more data in the future.
