Guest Speaker Review: Jayde Lovell-The Science of Influencers

I spend a lot of time on my phone. More so, than I like to admit. When I made my commitment to make a career change and attend graduate school, I made a conscious effort to use my free-time less for pleasant direction and more for professional development. And while I have not set a hard goal regarding time, after work and before bed (and after homework) I spend an hour of so, consuming content that is professionally focused. Whether learning about a new, upcoming social media platform, searching for networking opportunities within my area, or listening to podcasts, it has made a huge difference for me professionally. I think the more that you can do to make yourself stand out within your career the better.

Recently, I picked up a book called “Influencer: building your personal brand in the age of social media,” by Brittany Hennessy. It was so good that I completed it in three days! Influencer Marketing may have started out as a trend, but has become legitimized thanks to the effect ROI brands are seeing using Influencers to market their products. So, I was especially excited when I heard that Jayde Lovell, an Influencer and head of ReAgency Marketing would be leading a meeting with our classroom.

Jayde Lovell is an Influencer that specifies within the science space. An interesting niche considering the influx of influencers that cater to online business, lifestyle, and social media. Jayde has further capitalized by creating and leading a science based PR firm called ReAgency Science Marketing. In addition, she has further defined and maximized her career by hosting a Youtube show called ScIQ, which again focuses on science.

Jayde’s presentation was topical and her “five obvious rules that everyone always forgets,” for content creation was timely and relevant. Keeping your content whether a influencer or on a marco level as a brand should always be “good, genuine, ask, repeat, and be unexpected,” (Lovell, J. 9.9.18).

So, for my classmates, who are you favorite influencers and why? Share your thoughts below!
