Trends in Content Marketing Strategies

September 18, 2020 By Melissa McCusker Leave a Comment

Building new content marketing strategies is a key part of my day to day responsibilities at work. I work alongside a Marketing Associate and we plan the strategy together. Part of this process is building and following a marketing calendar. Our company focuses most on maintaining a social media presence. “With over 3.7 billion global users, it’s easy to understand why so many businesses invest in social media content marketing.” (Hubspot, Kristen Baker, 2020) While collaborating on concepts behind the strategy, we also play two different parts which helps with our workflow.

I use my graphic design background to create and design posts for our social media accounts and the Marketing Associate is responsible for posting the images to our social media channels. We are both passionate about overseeing the content marketing strategy and we conduct research to see what is trending. Keeping up with content marketing trends will help our company’s online presence stay ahead and also help us stand out amongst our competition.

“The first and most crucial step in creating a strategy is to know your customer. The primary questions to answer before moving to the next step are “Who is your customer?” and “What are their biggest pain points?” (Altimeter, 2016). Researching our customer’s journey is the most important part of planning our content marketing strategy. We want to cater our social posts and online presence to our current followers but also keep things new and refreshed to gain some new traffic to our sites. It’s a balance of keeping our followers happy and engaged without losing them and also opening up our content to new audiences that will eventually turn from a lead to a customer. I believe the key to growing our following is putting content marketing trends into place.

Marketing Insider Group says these are the top content marketing trends you need to follow in 2020:

  1. Personalized Content
  2. Brands Go Niche with Content
  3. Voice Search Will Evolve How Content Marketing Sounds
  4. Content Needs to Be Concise, Not TL;DR
  5. Diversified Content Brings in New Audiences
  6. UGC Continues to Rock
  7. Influencer Marketing Is Evolving
  8. Embracing Live Video
  9. Interactive Content
  10. The Written Word Speaks Louder
  11. Automated Content Creation
  12. AI-Powered Content Marketing Strategy

I think trying out influencer marketing, embracing live video and having an A.I.-powered marketing strategy will help grow my company’s following. We sell time-saving apartment marketing products custom built for the multifamily industry. Collaborating with an influencer and having them do a live video on our account would be big for our company. Influencers in the real estate industry are rare and working with one will really make us stand out. Also having an A.I. powered strategy would be on brand for us as well since one of our products we sell is an A.I. powered chatbot to engage with rental prospects 24/7. Overall, following trends in social media content marketing and implementing them into our social posts will grow an even more successful online presence!
