This was a great ad. Thanks for posting. What really impressed me is that I usually associate BK with silly ads featuring the “King” (which I love, btw), so it was a little jarring at first to see them use a more serious, though somewhat light-hearted tone.

Taylor, I had a similar post regarding Niantic & Wizards Unite. I definitely think this has potential, but I, personally, would be surprised if it surpassed Pokemon Go! While it may have more overall downloads, I think the tail of Pokemon Go! is longer. The reason I say this is that I think Pokemon Go hit at the right time, with the right features…[Read more]

Very interesting tech going on here…however, I am going to put my pessimist glasses on for a moment. While I think it is great Facebook is offering this kind of tech – what happens when/if it gets determined that Facebook/social media are a catalyst for this type of emotional instability in its users. Does it reconsider its business…[Read more]

I think there were a few things preventing this to taking off – and honestly, it is a similar struggle for any piece of eye-wear-tech.
1) People don’t like wearing glasses – the fact is, though many people wear glasses, most prefer not too. Contact Lenses exist for a reason.
2) When would I use them – with Spectacles, they are primarily…[Read more]

Great set of links Taryn! My company, Johnson & Johnson, has a social media policy, but it is set at a corporate level. The problem is, J&J is a huge company, a conglomerate of different businesses a go to market strategies. I often struggle with Social Media governance as I find the policy, often, to not be realistic when comparing a brand that…[Read more]

In a recent article from Salon, the argument is raised that links a correlation between Social Media use and increasing political divisiveness in America. A recent PEW study shows that over the last 2 decades ( […]

Tony great post – I can count myself into the group of people who have removed (for the most part) Social Media from my life. I only have 2 posts on Facebook in the last year (My wedding day & to announce my wife is pregnant). I have only tweeted once (technically a multiple tweet engagement) in the last 4 years (to complain to Amazon Support and…[Read more]

Tony – you pose a great point I wasn’t really considering! The data they collected from Pokemon will probably give Niantic so much internal knowledge to leverage moving forward in understanding what works in creating a solid experience. I will admit – I have never been a Harry Potter fan. While the potential is pretty huge, I am just not sure…[Read more]

Matt – I agree. I think Pokemon’s legacy as a game franchise allowed it to bridge a gap for early adopters who wanted Pokemon on mobile (whether it was AR or not). Once it took off with this early adopter/gaming community, the AR carried it into the mainstream. I think Harry Potter’s like of connection with “video gaming” may hurt it’s potential…[Read more]

Thanks Kelly. I agree that Harry Potter is more widely approachable as a brand across age groups (There aren’t many adults who know what a Snorlax is, but they would probably know of Hogwarts). However, what Niantic/Pokemon I think has/had going for it led to a perfect storm scenario. Pokemon was already a staple in the gaming space (something…[Read more]

I agree Meg. I also think this specific game might not be as successful (such a large initial audience) because Pokemon “wore out” the casual AR gamers. It would be interesting if Niantic tries to tie this with the launch plan for a sequel to Fantastic Beasts or some other event in the Harry Potter universe.
