What an interesting, and absolutely terrifying post!! I was aware of BCI for those who suffer from physical limitations & the wonders it provided those individuals to connect & communicate with the world. However the thought of employers and Facebook using BCI technology for collecting data on personal thoughts is downright terrifying. It sounds…[Read more]

Really interesting post Aja! I too, don’t fret about my data being used for targeting & re-targetting ads, while at times creepy, the benefits mostly outweigh the cons. Biometrics on the other had do teeter into the super creepy area. I’m an iphone user & always have been, the face recognition never really bothered me until COVID hit and the…[Read more]

Love the automation idea Katie! That’s my biggest frustration with grocery delivery is the bad selection of produce. No matter how many details you provide, something in your original order will be wrong. While substitute selection is helpful, its just not the same. If there was an automation option available for scanning produce to pick “your”…[Read more]

Great app find Ang! While I’m not a photographer by trade like you, I do take an excessive amount of photos while on vacation, traveling for work, or down the shore each summer. Before the google photos app existed, I would get beyond frustrated when I would need to delete photos off my phone because of the lack of storage space. Google Photos has…[Read more]

I’ve found myself thinking about this more frequently. I’m not sure how the medical infrastructure can handle the second surge of COVID that’s inevitably going to hit. Critical path methodology definitely seems like a good way to go about this, but I wonder how easy it would be to implement and any process improvements it would need to work properly. And of course, whether the healthcare system will have the time needed to implement a new system.

Interesting post Katie! The critical path methodology is quite literally perfect for the current situation the medical world faces with this pandemic. I wonder what other sectors of the medical field will adopt this approach to handle to oncoming waves as we head into cold and flu season. Will this methodology be used in triage in ERs as the…[Read more]

I certainly can’t speak about other companies but I think if my company had not been on top of it’s game, it would have been a different outcome during COVID. When covid started and businesses were scrambling, trying to figure out what to do, we were too. I recall the announcement that we would be taking a phased approach to moving employees to remote work. As the outbreak worsened, my company went all in and decided to have everyone work remote. It was a calculated risk. Would our services work correctly in an all remote environment? Since that time, everything has worked out tremendously mostly in part to our technology team’s continuous improvement and the company’s overall business process improvement. We just so happened to need the up-to-date tools and technology because of the nature of our business. Had we not been up to date on this, I do believe our remote work experience would have been miserable.

This is such a timely post with the news of Google’s Project Nightingale. I work in healthcare and privacy & sharing data are always hot topics of discussion. Melissa, very interesting idea incorporating Zillow into the blockchain potential for real estate. It’s always shocking how off Zillow’s information can be especially when its advertised as up to date. I think blockchain could really make a huge difference in real estate especially eliminating the need for escrow as you mentioned above.

Rachael Pignotti wrote a new post, Voting security…does technology have the answer?, on the site Digital Marketing MKTG 5604 Fall 2019 2 years, 6 months ago

I think blockchain in the political world could drastically change and improve politics. The population would no longer have to worry about inaccuracies when it comes to voting and can be reassured that the elected candidate was truly elected. While I think this is a fantastic idea and the people in politics would approve of it, I do not think the entire population would. When thinking of the entire population, there are many people who still distrust technology. As a result, they would not be comfortable with such an advanced technology. As we all know, the voting population includes teenagers and above. If we were to take a look at that entire age range, I believe there would definitely be members of the population who would disapprove of this idea. However, for myself, I think this is an innovate and fantastic idea that I would happily welcome.
-
Great idea! I wrote a post about “wicked problems” in voting, like gerrymandering. Would the people who are trying to hold on to power approve innovations for voting, or would they want to hold on to old systems? Approving new voting innovations could lead to other improvements that might give them less control in the future.

I think the idea of creating a map to identify areas or neighborhoods and most importantly businesses where trafficking has been identified is a terrific way to communicate about incidents in communities. Informing local communities is half the battle. The more knowledge sharing that’s available the more incidents can be identified.

Excellent take! I like how you took the time to determine how to make it less cumbersome to the contributor. People don’t like being delayed, so making this transaction as painless as possible would ultimately make or break success.
-
Rachael – I also wrote my post about homelessness & I really like this concept. People rarely carry cash and having a device for the people selling the magazines to take payment is a great idea. It is definitely a good way to guarantee more donations.
-
Rachel, I’ve been in the exact same situation where I’d like to give some spare change, but I literally have none since I use my credit or debit card for everything. I think I take cash out of an ATM once or twice a year. This would be a really great way to donate to people in need. I think there is potential to get even more creative with this, and I’d like to do more research and learn more about potential ways to help combat homelessness.

Living in Chicago, I know EXACTLY the social and emotional toll this can take on someone. On one hand, I feel hopeless at the inability to help one, on the other, I’ve met with a fair amount of folks that take advantage of this sentiment. I always told my mom there is more than one way to reach into your wallet in front of stranger to pull out a few dollars, because you never know what’s waiting for you at the end of the block. THIS right here, sounds like the ultimate way to be able to assist on the go while still maintaining your personal safety. Instead of the leftover apple or bottled water in my lunch, I can certainly see using such a digital solution to make some small contribution. Thank you for the article, Rachael, it definitely helps to put our blessings in perspective!

You brought up a great point Ralph, AI doesn’t eliminate work but redistribute it. I very much can relate to your Concur example. Concur while useful in some ways is tedious and very cumbersome in most others,…[Read more]

Rachael Pignotti wrote a new post, Thinking outside the traditional Social Strategy Box, on the site Information Technology Management MIS 5001 Fall 2019 2 years, 7 months ago
There’s no denying that having a social media strategy is necessary for any business or industry in 2019, but the true question is what does that strategy look like? To answer that a company or business must have […]
-
Rachael, that is interesting that your field has such a specialized customer base to warrant bypassing the use of traditional social media outlets. do you find that the traditional outlets do not provide the response or interaction you’re looking for? While I don’t know the exact make up of your industry/customers, there is a medical association page on facebook that contains over a half a million followers (https://www.facebook.com/pg/AmericanMedicalAssociation). I wonder if perhaps there just may be a use for the traditional?
-
Rachael – this is a great point. In my experience, it has been a difficult process to tame the urge for a client to be on every social media platform ever created. It just doesn’t make sense. A business must be thoughtful in their strategy as to how they approach social media. Meaning, that the way they use Pinterest and the part of the business target and goals used there would most likely be different from the strategy and part of the target they are trying to reach for Instagram.
-
Rachael — I find it so fascinating how much the medical field has to tailor its marketing strategies to fit its audience. In such a diverse industry, the audiences vary greatly, whether it’s medical providers, patients, medical supplies manufacturers, etc. I’d be interested to know more about how your company developed its strategy and in what ways it utilizes these outlets to reach its audience.
