Hi Morgan,
Truthfully, in the next decade, I do think a lot of these TV providers will become extinct or there may come a time when there is just one main provider. Contracts with TV providers can get quite expensive, plus you’re locked in for “X” amount of years. With streaming services, there’s no contracts and you can cancel your…[Read more]

Great read! I still find to this day that grocery stores are having a difficult time keeping the shelves stocked. Most people in the poorest countries will need to wait another two years before they are vaccinated against COVID-19. Around 11 billion doses are needed to fully vaccinate 70% of the world’s population. More than […]

Hi Olivia! I think this topic is so important but rarely talked about, so thanks for posting about it. I think Covax would be great to help vaccinate lower-income countries, especially those in big cities where social distancing or staying at home is less feasible. In your list of “richer” countries, I think all would be more than willing to help, except for some hesitancy from the US. A lot of our own population isn’t vaccinated, by choice, but I worry that we’re still holding onto vaccines just in case these people change their minds. It would be interesting to see if Covax could be used to monitor any vaccine waste to see if distribution should be changed up for efficiency and to eliminate vaccine waste. I think the value proposition for Covax is very strong, so it’ll be up to world leaders to see the value and implement it. Great post!

Hey Olivia! Great post! IoT is one of the most fascinating developing technologies we have right now! It’s impact on industries world wide are growing and replacing old habits in data collection and business decisions. I like your question regarding the pros and cons of the dependency on the internet for operations. The ability for the grid to support this mass use of the internet is extremely vital to the expansion of IoT. When systems shut down, chaos insures and could cause major losses for the companies. The best example being Facebook recently losing large amounts from their shutdown last week. I believe most companies are already taking the risks of implementing IoT, finding it more convenient and efficient for data collection and behavioral insights. This will be very interesting as we move forward integrating technology and daily life.
-
Hi Olivia! I love how this post expands on the conversation we had in class on Wednesday. There’s a lot to unpack here. I agree with Hannah in that the impact of IoT across all industries is substantial and will continue to be. It’s ability to generate real-time insights is a major competitive advantage. From a con standpoint, I think the obvious issue that comes to mind when you have such large scale data sharing and interconnectedness is privacy on the personal side as well as cyber security on the corporate side. That being said, I feel as though the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. Those companies who do not adapt, or are slow to adopt, in terms of building their technological infrastructure will ultimately be unable to keep a competitive edge and meet the demands of other organizations. I look forward to seeing how this evolves and how quickly this landscape will shift!
-
Interesting read Olivia.
Overall, yes! I believe the IOT is definitely here to stay, and judging by the data you supplied, will only continue to grow astronomically. Not to mention, I believe the pros of this change will highly outweigh the cons. I could see many being uncomfortable with how much our personal data is being tracked and monitored, which could absolutely be a con but judging by how much good data can do when it comes to medicine, transportation, retail, I mean I could go on and on! To answer your third question, that could be another con! It is quite possible that there will be a huge percentage of the population who will be unable to effectively use or afford the change in technology which may include everything from individuals to companies themselves. Those who can stay relevant and ahead of the curve can prosper, and those who can’t, may unfortunately be left behind.

Do you remember when lockdowns swept across the globe due to the COVID-19 pandemic at the beginning of 2020? E-commerce sales skyrocketed and this created a mountain of data for marketers to leverage for future […]
-
Hi Olivia! Really thought provoking ideas and extremely important as we proceed through innovation and digital marketing. I can imagine that technology invading privacy is in the subconscious of many people’s minds as we develop self automated cars and Alexa like AI. The one thing that most people find extremely scary is marketing that somehow connects to conversations outside of the device. For example, recently I was watching a TikTok of a girl eating a Reece’s and almost immediately, the smart tv in front of her started playing a Reece’s commercial. These sorts of phenomenon make people worried that there is surveillance on the devices they have around them, yet marketing techniques are still ample to do such a thing. And unlike most marketing taboo techniques, I believe listening and spilling an ad for a related item is crossing a line for any generation.
Has this ever happened to anyone? How did you feel about the ad and the trust in your devices?
-
HI Olivia!
Digital Marketers are in for a challenge more nowadays with data privacy becoming a big thing. I recently got a new iPhone, iPhone 11, and that was the first time I have been asked to opt out of being tracked for advertising purposes. I of course said no to all of them. I am not the biggest fan of being tracked on my phone on my internet habits, I also did it as a security measure. There are people who will take advantage of the data tracking on the iPhones. However, I don’t mind when a company is tracking my internet moves when I see an ad while I am scrolling Instagram. A majority of the time I will click on those ads and maybe even make a purchase. However, when is it too much? Is there a thin line between doing it for the consumer experience and invading their privacy?
These are the challenges future digital marketers will have to face as more and more data privacy laws are coming into effect. It’s going to be harder to get e-commerce consumer data.
-
Hi Olivia! This is an excellent post and an issue that has been on many people’s minds these days, including mine. As a consumer, I sympathize with people’s feelings of personal privacy invasion when they’re being tracked on apps across their devices and receive personalized ads and marketing messages: it can feel pretty creepy. But as a marketer, I completely understand the irreplaceable benefit that consumer data provides. As we move forward, I think there’s a group of consumers who will fight hard against being tracked, but I also think the general population will grow more comfortable with being monitored; the younger generation is already very accustomed to it and are starting to expect an engaging, personalized experience with their favorite brands. Privacy laws and regulations are going to create challenges but it’s a changing landscape, as you said. It may be harder to market to individuals but new challenges will bring new opportunities to adapt.
