Although this is a unique and different way of using Snapchat, I’m not sure what significance it has toward a job application. What will McDonald’s learn about the applicant through this, besides what they look like?

Great post Jess! Social media definitely affects how people see a brand since it has such a broad reach. I think this will have an impact on United for a long time, especially considering how they handled it afterward.

Love this! “Milk builds strong bones” is a slogan I can get behind, because the vitamins in milk promote this. However, I don’t think drinking milk will make you more prone to being an Olympic athlete. Great analogy between the ice cream and drowning rates to illustrate the point!

Great read, Adrienne! I do a lot of work for our different service lines’ Facebook pages at Penn Medicine and being able to target our audiences more specifically would be a God send. Can’t wait to see how we can apply these new learnings!

This phenomenon has fascinated me and I can definitely see how those numbers were reached. Even though I really had no interest in a giraffe giving birth, I couldn’t scroll through my Facebook feed without seeing this random giraffe web cam. Since I have friends and family from all over the country, it seemed as though they each shared their local news station’s stream of the general feed.

(This is more of a branding-related thing, but of course it was a rather brilliant move of ToysRUs to sponsor it. With a giraffe mascot and their logo on most of those live streams, it was a perfect opportunity. Here’s a little article about how it came about: http://fortune.com/2017/04/07/april-the-giraffe-live-stream-toys-r-us-give-birth/ )

FINALLY! This has been the talk of the town in my family. I can’t believe how many people were tuned into this Giraffe giving birth. I wanted nothing to do with it, but because it was shared so many times, I couldn’t get away!

Until Saturday I had no idea who April was. I rarely go on Facebook and I assume this is why. But jeez, 800,000 mentions of this giraffe? I agree, Toys R Us made the right move by sponsoring their live feed. When I discovered this, much later than most, I searched “giraffe” on google, and the entire first page was April results. I wonder how much longer this will go on. Will they start doing this across the country with other animals at other zoos?
