This is very interesting! As someone who frequently uses Waze for works, I have noticed how they have incorporated the zero second ads. Even with the temptation, I have never been persuaded enough to change my route due to the route being off my path. Very similar to Emma’s comment, for people who are familiar in that area, I wonder how many p…[Read more]

I personally hate push notifications unless it is for a brand I thoroughly enjoy such as my “Forever21” app that lets me know when a sale is going on or when my rewards are about to expire. These push notifications do inspire me to buy more merchandise or at least open the app to see what is new to purchase. I have even noticed that some of my pus…[Read more]

Great Post Cindy! This topic is one that I think about a lot as like most of us I receive targeted ads for things that I normally wouldn’t buy or be interested in.. Really enjoyed this read! I love that comment “Twitter please find this guy” as this same statement has been used multiple times on the app to help people find someone in a photo in other situations. It amazing to see how Budlight was able to capitalize on one simple moment and make it into a whole marketing strategy.

Great Post! As someone who has watched several episodes of Friends, I think UK Comedy did a great job by promoting this event! For show that has been around for over 20 years to still have this much of a fanbase even in another country is amazing!

Hi Kricket, thanks for sharing! I really enjoy Hozier’s music too. Instagram and Facebook Live have been great tools for artists to announce something they’re working on whether that’s a pop-up show or new music. Live events are a great way to be transparent with your audience. From your post it seems like Hozier’s concert setup was very minimal, he only had the basics he needed to put on the show. This shows his fans that he doesn’t need the fancy setup and he is truly a talented artist. The Live Event definitely gave his team data on his 772,000 viewers. According to Sprout Social (https://sproutsocial.com/insights/instagram-stories-analytics/) Instagram Stories can track how many followers viewed, skipped, rewatched, exited, and replied/commented. Instagram analytics also shows reach and number of impressions. His social team could compare his live concert with his other story posts to see what his audience liked/engaged with more so they can plan future content.

Love this! I actually saw the video on Twitter when it first came out and it shocked me that the Mac& Cheese was made that way and apparently a lot of people were not aware which one reason why I believe this video went viral. Its amazing how Social Media in recent years has brought to light what goes on in a lot of restaurants.

Great post Kricket,,,Wendy’s Twitter is fascinating to me, I always wonder who is behind it, is it a team, is it one person?
As a brand they seem really in tune with the times, from releasing a hip-hop mixtape to flirting with MoonPie, and relentlessly roasting McDonald’s. There seems to be no limit to their sass, as they continue winning on social media. Wendy’s is basically the golden standard for customer service on Twitter. The best example is when a guy on the web won free nuggets for a year when he tweeted Wendy’s asking the for it. This tweet became the second most retweet in history. He tweeted “Yo @wendys how many retweets for a year of free chicken nuggets” They quickly responded with “18 million”. The tweet quickly reached the mark and even had a hashtag “#NuggsforCarter” (1), the best part is that Wendy’s really gave this guy free nuggets for a year. In my opinion this is great twitter customer engagement. The fact that Wendy’s actually replies and will make fun of other fast food chain restaurants is hilarious. The best part is their twitter antics is that it aligns with their overall strategy, “People at Wendys are serious about the food, but not themselves” (2)

Kricket Robinson wrote a new post, Amazon is Helping Me Design My New Apartment, on the site Digital Innovation in Mobile Marketing and Communication MKTG 5606 Fall 2019 3 years, 7 months ago

I wasn’t aware that Amazon had that functionality in their app! That’s really interesting. I’m in the middle of giving my apartment a “design refresh” so your post immediately caught my eye.
Typically if I’m looking for new furniture I’ve always used the Wayfair app. I love everything about Wayfair. Their app design, organization, prices, branding and even that stupid little jingle that plays on all their ads. However, I will admit that even though I’ve done quite a bit of shopping on Wayfair, I have not found their AR features to be very useful. I find that it’s very pixelated and the items are in odd positions so it’s difficult to tell if they would actually look good in the space. Even though you have the ability to shift the item around and make it bigger or smaller, it doesn’t actually scale to size so you end up just making the item fit while looking at your screen, but it might be completely different dimensions in real life!
I’d be interested in looking more into this side of the Amazon app to see how the two compare. Have you used both apps as well? I love that Amazon makes smart suggestions based on your history. I haven’t noticed wayfair doing that, although they drive me crazy with all their remarketing ads! I was looking at a couch on their app but ending up buying it from another company and for months I was followed around the internet by these ads and received dozens of email blasts that were personalized specifically for my couch shopping!
How do you find the personalized suggestions that Amazon is giving you? Is it your style?
On a another side note I think it’s just wild that Amazon literally can take on anyone as a competitor. It’s almost scary but also impressive. No one is safe from the eyes and ears of Amazon!
Thanks for the post, I’m definitely going to check this out!

I’ve had the same issue with size when using the AR previews. We tried it at the theater when looking at sofas for sets on Wayfair. But because our space is so huge, it can’t really scale it correctly, or even get close. While they really package AR as a convenient feature, it tends to make more problems in my world than it can fix. We just wind up measuring out various furniture lengths and marking it on the floor to get a sense of scale.
We purchase so much from Amazon all the time. Prime has been a great resource for theaters. The price is sometimes less than in store, no one wasted time running out to get it, it arrives within two days, they deliver on weekends, and they have a very lax return policy…essentially, the theater feels like an Amazon-box-flattening-factory some days. Plus, we do our amazon ordering using our own Amazon Smile, so our purchases include a % donation back to ourselves.
The only thing they do wrong in terms of our use is billing. It’s incredibly hard to reconcile multiple credit cards (you cannot search your orders by the last 4 digits), the dates on the orders never match the dates on the credit statement, you can’t print your order immediately because the charges often change and also won’t match the statement, and the returns are broken up some crazy way by their algorithm, so you wind up with a bunch of non-sensical packing.
It would be amazing if the app implemented scan and return so we could pack our items more logically. If I could scan 10 items to go in a box to be returned (agnostic of order/invoice number) that would take HOURS of effort out of the process.
But seriously, I’d settle for being able to look up the credit card used for purchase.
-
I will also say: somehow their business accounts make an even bigger mess of orders, returns and accounting, so we are using an individual Prime account, shared across the theater.
-
That’s a really interesting idea Alyssa. I can see B2B and B2C benefits and it likely could be accommodated with either a small add-on component to your handset or through the device camera. Similarly, I wonder if you could take your scan-and-return idea and use it for better invoice retrieval in the app?
I love the spirit of these AR integrations, but agree that the execution isn’t perfect just yet.
The trough of disillusionment is real!
