Hello everyone! I thought I’d share that I recently dug up my old portfolio from my attic. Allow me to explain…. when I first started out in my career, we weren’t creating digital portfolios yet. I had a large zippered case with handles (20 inches by 26 inches), it was a graduation gift! I had printed samples of pieces that I’d created for actual clients, and I meticulously taped them into place on the 9 or so pages in the portfolio. I lugged that thing all over the place. Good times.
It’s been many, many years since I used that portfolio. I took a position with my company in the in-house graphics team, and over the years, I’ve made many lateral moves into different areas. It’s been a long time since I did any design work (well, occasionally, I’ve “art directed” a few things for friends, meaning that I no longer have the actual technical skills so I have them execute my idea). But I do miss it. A lot.
I finally took all those old print samples out of the portfolio. I can’t quite bear to part with them (although there is nothing particularly exciting about them), but I was able to fit them all into a box. I’m hoping I can find someone who can use the ol’ portfolio.
In the meantime, I’m very hopeful that through this program, I’ll have many opportunities to dust off my design sensibilities and put them to work.
Let’s hear about your designer evolution….!
