Curious to get your thoughts on how Pharmaceutical companies could use mobile. Mobile is a very intimate thing and I struggle to find people that want to have an intimately close relationship with the medications they are taking. On top of that, the industry is SO regulated it is insane. We are very very limited in what we can say…go to any pharma website and you will notice a lengthy important safety information on every page. Which has to be visible without required scrolling. You lose 20% of the screen off the bat to that. Combine that with limiting your words to what your label is approved for makes it very difficult to do anything that helps you build a relationship.

Is there a way to build an app around a medication you create? That way you are building on a community you already have but its not directly relating to your a prescription so you don’t have the same red tape with the government. So for example I know Merck makes the drug Belsomra for people who have trouble sleeping. They could create an app around that to give people addition tips for getting a good night’s sleep. It would more along the line of wellness tips.

That’s a terrific idea Lauren. If you can expand the conversation, you can put more usable pharmaceutical content out there without claiming benefits that are not already legally approved.

Thanks for sharing, Eni! I must say that the Walmart commercial hit home for me as well. Growing up in my suburban neighborhood, all my neighbors and I looked forward to was Halloween. The trick-or-treating, themed parties, and many other activities brought all the youth together and friendships were made. The slogan is very catchy as well.

Very interesting post, Gennie. I completely agree that an extensive vetting process would be needed to ensure that the given influencer is the perfect fit with the organization. Both parties have their own respective reputation that they want to uphold. The organization needs to take that into consideration when deciding to move forward with a…[Read more]

Nice! It’s always great to see effective results come from viral social media efforts. It’s just another example of the potential impact that can be made from social media. Hopefully the same type of outcome results in the 22 Pushup Challenge. Thanks for sharing, Jerry!

Very interesting post, Kimberly. Sometimes simplicity is more effective than doing too much, and Obsessee seems to be an organization that exemplifies that. I’m interested to see how what direction they go down the road. They could very well be the trendsetter for social media innovation.

These are certainly some cringeworthy social media fails. I completely agree that organizations need to be able to adapt and learn from the social media efforts in order to remain effective. A great aspect of social media is how quickly feedback can be gathered (ex: the outrage from a controversial post). Great post, Alex!
