Christina,
Good luck with your house hunting! I’m with you and Ang on this, I welcome the internet to do some of my thinking for me! Especially these last few months, Things have been so crazy; I find it more difficult to come up with new ideas. Family dinner is a daily struggle for me. Same, Daniel. I’m an enter a passcode kind of gal. I don’t want to give Apply my fingerprint or my face. I avoid biometrics mostly because I don’t completely understand how that data will be used and I don’t trust businesses like Google or Apple are going to do what’s in my best interest. I don’t think they are truly worried about people as…[Read more]

I love this, James! In the spirit of getting my kids even more independent (aka decreasing the interruption while I work in my home office), I went out last weekend and picked up a Nest Mini for each of them. Now, Siri is getting them logged in to synchronous classes and Google answers their questions during asynchronous classes. I’ll hear them…[Read more]

Love it! As you continue “smartifying” your home, IFTTT (https://ifttt.com/) might serve some inspiration. My initial idea was to have the WiFi cut out to kill TikTok access a minute or two after your alert, but that might be the nuclear option. Depending on your ISP though, you might be able to target certain devices to better “guide” their attention to the appropriate screen.
To the class, what’s your comfort level with your life being increasingly governed by a digital assistant? Does it feel different if it’s applied to someone you have responsibility caring for (kids, relative, immature spouse perhaps)?
What are the tradeoffs in delegating our care for others or ourselves to a digital caretaker?

I love this! I think the shortcuts just came out in the last year or so right? I use the IFTTT quite a bit. Images that I post to Instagram are uploaded to twitter with the image included… not a bit.ly link that Instagram typically does. I also have it synced with my dropbox account so any photo I post to Instagram automatically gets uploaded to dropbox as well.
Thanks for the siri tips!

Oh man, I have seen IFTTT in action and it’s creepy and amazing all at once. But I would use it at work more if IT would let me. I have used Flows but it’s a bit more limited than IFTTT.

I think they just came out with a paid version of this too. I haven’t dipped my toe into that pool yet. Honestly, I thought IFTTT would fall apart when the Apple OS created the shortcuts, but it’s still here!

Great post, Aja! I would also consider myself a “pseudo” project manager. Project management for me is about change. I think a successful project manager embraces change and can inspire a team to feel comfortable (maybe even excited) about change. When a team is working together toward a shared purpose, they can effectively and efficiently tac…[Read more]

This is a great post, Jen. It resonates with my experience in Advertising where we begin every client relationship with research. In fact, it’s obvious the correlation between sales and campaign success to the amount of effective research done before. Because of this, I am always in the camp of having research precede all action. But after we launch a campaign (the build), we always track via analytics (the measure), and before the next year (or as needed mid-campaign) we apply those learnings to make changes. Great post!

Great Post Jen!
I definitely agree that we could be missing an opportunity to close the the Build-Measure-Learn feedback loop. Satya Nadella (CEO of Microsoft) pushed the company to operate more collaboratively in 2014. Under his leadership Microsoft has launched products such as Windows 10, Minecraft, Xbox360 and HoloLens. As an innovation safety valve, Nadella created revived the “Garage” concept. This was a space created for innovative staffers to create or tinker with projects that didn’t fit into specific Microsoft releases. In the garage, MS research teams could test, re-test, and discover — employing the The Build-Measure-Learn loop until a product was ready for either further collaboration or for another team to build that new tech into their projects. As MS is one of the world’s leading tech companies — I would venture to think they’re doing something right lol!

Great post, Jen. I think several companies and organizations are in a similar boat of figuring out how to build that feedback loop and make it effective. As I’ve mentioned our corporation uses Agile as well as Lean methods to look at continuous improvement, but I don’t think it’s holistic across the organization. I think a yearly or even biannual process of taking a step back and figuring out a process, project, etc. could be worthwhile, and maybe it could be as simple as that.

Interesting post, Angelica. I am fortunate that my commute to my office is less than 15 minutes, so I don’t have to rely on navigation tools.
