Hi Olivia!
Great post. Got me thinking because I don’t know too much about the metaverse but one question that popped in my head was if all companies that create a metaverse would somehow be connected or are they all separate and a person can’t cross over? This question came up after I thought how many people are actually in the metaverse. There…[Read more] -

Hi Chelle,
Great post! I don’t really mediate but I would like to start. I’ve heard so many great things about Calm and Headspace. I decided to download Calm because I always see an ad about it. Going to try to explore this app as much as I can during my 7 day free trial. These apps and IOT technology for meditation can get pricy, but it’s…[Read more]

Hi Morgan,
I totally agree its a pain/hassle to call or go to Comcast because if you call it takes forever to reach a representative. Sometimes you got to tell your reason for calling to multiple representatives until you reach the correct person who can help and that takes time.I currently have Comcast and you’re right about the bill always…[Read more]

Hi Brandyn,
Great post! I really like the digital kiosk idea. They could be placed every few blocks to make it accessible for anyone around to recycle. I think there are more pros than cons for this idea. But a downside for this digital innovation could be that these kiosks could get filled up easily and who would empty it? or how often would…[Read more] -

Hey Iridian!
It’s so funny that you came across Winnow – that’s the company our group is focusing on for our final project! Food waste from restaurants is a huge issue and one that I definitely hope can be reduced through AI technology and IoT innovation. So far, Winnow has focused on larger kitchens for their scale and camera technology – I’m very curious to see how well their AI could be applied to smaller kitchens, like the restaurants in Philly for example. Having worked in a busy kitchen for almost 10 years, I can tell you that things move very fast and it would take incredible discipline to consistently implement such a technology system. I would love to see it though!
In our house, we do a few different things to reduce food waste: we make an intense effort to use everything up in the fridge before it spoils, we compost organic materials for soil to use in the garden, and we feed scraps to our chickens.
-
I think the easiest way to limit food waste at home is to meal plan. Not only does this save money, but it lessens the chance that you’ll buy products that won’t get used.
Some of blame definitely can be placed on businesses. I remember going to Aldi recently and saw that the only avocados they sell are in bags of 6-8. Unless you’re making guacamole for a party, are you really going to use up all of those before they’re overripe? Restaurants may only use an ingredient for one dish, which increases the chances of unused product and spoilage. In the context of food waste, these decisions are definitely irresponsible.
I’d love to see composting become more commonplace, especially in our area. I went to Montreal two years ago, and residents there have a bin specifically for compostable items. Maybe there’s a tech opportunity to help increase the adoption of at-home composting in the U.S.

Iridian, I really like the idea of creating a wireless means of communication between the Earth and Moon. It’s such a “sci-fi” thing to accomplish, that is also a no-brainer given the fact that we have the technology to do it. As long as the wireless communication is owned by NASA, I’m less worried about some sort of abuse of the network (IE for military purposes, privatization by a corporation, etc). My only real concern would be NASA and other agencies becoming to reliant on the wireless network in the future. Wireless networks, no matter who owns them, are susceptible to attack from malicious users. I would hate to hear that this great new technology simply became another battleground between the United States and other countries vying for control of the Moon.
-
Iridian,
This is so cool, I did not even know this was a thing, like at all. I am still caught up in the idea of the moon having internet!! How crazy is that? As Ben said, I think it is so cool that we can have wireless communication between the Moon and Earth. I think the biggest issue regarding this is the price, I cannot even begin to imagine the price tag that will accompany the WiFi router on the Moon. I think it will be safe to bring WiFi to the Moon, I cannot imagine why it would not be safe. I also think it is really cool that this will eventually lead to astronauts being able to communicate with family members back home while they are out on missions, I cannot imagine what it is like to be away from family for so long with no means of communication.
-
Hey Iridian,
This is such a cool post – I definitely just learned something new!
I definitely agree that while it’s amazing that they’re going to have internet on the moon, there are concerns that would need to be addressed.
I think that some of these concerns are similar to those on earth in regards to the internet (like privacy and security), but on the moon, how are they going to get this set up when there is literally no infrastructure there? Who is going to maintain it?
If these questions and concerns can be addressed I think that having internet on the moon could be safe and successful!
-
Iridian
This is such a cool concept and I hope it works just like it is described. I think adding internet to any area (on earth or out of earth) is a fantastic idea. Giving more opportunity for people to use the power of the internet and especially with Nasa, which I would think would help tremendously. I think it is safe to bring the internet to the moon. There is no hackers out there as we know of and no violation of privacy would be breached.

Hi Abby,
Great Post! I am always on Facebook and Instagram and I am aware they do lots of tracking, but I don’t like to think about it. I find it a bit scary. Hi Kate,
Great post! I never knew Netflix personalized thumbnails for each person. Hi Iridian!
Great insight. So true AI has made scanning through vast amounts of data crucial for market research so simple. It’s much quicker and accurate than traditional methods, any given day.
Social media platforms are a great way to collect customer’s likes, dislikes, and recommendations.
However, I might not try social media to understand deeper analysis, like where the industry may go in the next 5-8 years or what may affect the current product/service line in the coming years.
I also feel social media is a straightforward but biased methodology for collecting data.
I would love to know more ways of collecting unbiased data. I genuinely appreciate customers/people who contribute their time towards market research because it’s the only way to design./re-design better products/services.
Thank you for this excellent post!
