Thinking about the Target Case Study in relation to the readings about big data I think it’s clear that there needs to be better security with companies and their customer information. While the Target se […]

Sometimes when we think of what marketing is we think of things like manipulation, persuasion or selling but that’s not entirely accurate. Instead we’re telling a story. Some of the best stories come from dat […]

Evelyn Teti wrote a new post, Will AI Take the Stress Out of Hiring?, on the site Business Intelligence MIS 5101 Spring 2019 3 years, 2 months ago
Everyone who has ever hired for a position knows that the first step is to sort though your applicants. You look through the applications and see who has relevant job experience and who might be a “good f […]

Hi Evelyn, thank you for sharing! I think companies and their recruiters would jump at the idea to screen out unlikely candidates. It has the potential to save them time but it will cost them a substantial sum of money. I do not believe AI could ever take over the whole hiring process, but they could definitely perform the initial phone screen and weed out candidates who don’t have the correct answers to a question. Even while I’m typing this comment I see an issue with “correct answers to a question” as some questions may not have a single correct answer. The last article you linked to above brings about pros and cons of AI in recruiting. Will AI ever be able to build relationships with candidates or convince a potential employee to accept the job? No, but it could decrease the number of candidates who get an in-person interview and do a base line evaluation of skills.
If you were an interviewee, how would you feel if AI was involved in your hiring process? -
Evelyn, I think about this often. There are so many unconscious biases and heuristics in the hiring process, that I think it would be better to leverage AI. Not that I think computers can always make the right decisions, but I think they can help to find the best candidate for a position based on skills and potential. I think the Moneyball case is a good example of that.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a huge Super Bowl fan unless the Eagles are one of the teams playing. I love football but I’ve never been interested in watching a game if I don’t like the teams. However […]

What a great thought Akasha! I think there are a lot of uses that blockchain would add benefit to in the retail industry. I found this article after I posted this and loved that the author thought of all the other ways that retail would benefit from a blockchain-model structure. The trust that blockchain would build between companies and consumers…[Read more]

What a great though Yue! I remember reading in an article (link below) about how “the F.D.A. normally receives about 300 to 400 complaints a year about bad reactions to cosmetics and personal care products, all of which are sold over-the-counter without prior government scrutiny”. This always makes me think about what products I am willing to put…[Read more]
