I think blockchain in the political world could drastically change and improve politics. The population would no longer have to worry about inaccuracies when it comes to voting and can be reassured that the elected candidate was truly elected. While I think this is a fantastic idea and the people in politics would approve of it, I do not think the…[Read more]

Using blockchain the real estate agency to streamline the paperwork process is a fantastic idea. Beyond the real estate agency, I think there are many other business that rely on paperwork and having particular documents signed. For example, I think the medical field relies on a lot of documentation as well. To me, blockchain would be useful in…[Read more]

The cable industry has definitely always been up against some threats, however, like you mentioned, it seems they are facing more threats now than ever. To me, it is unsurprising that the cable industry is continually facing competition. Consumers want convenience (which streaming services offer). They also want to be heard. Like you said, cable…[Read more]

Since dating sites are simply leveraging algorithms to match people, I don’t think it is out of the realm of possibilities to have them move into the same space. Coworkers tell me about their horror stories related to online dating. The sad thing is that they pay for these services. If Facebook can remain free, I think it will take the space by storm and steal significant market share.

Erin, I use Facebook as my primary social media tool to connect with family, friends and maintain connections with other groups and services. I find the calendar integration intriguing. I like the idea of this on a personal level and as I volunteer with my local down syndrome community. The calendar integration would be interesting on a personal level because some of my family and friends regularly sign up for running events. It would be nice to have the calendar integration just to keep track of events I’ll be attending. The chatbot/event reporting is interesting to me as a volunteer. Because I help set up events within facebook for our DS community, it would be great to have this assistance with the chatbot. I will be keeping my eye for both of these features. If I do end up using them, I will let you know how it goes.

Erin – I am a Marketing Coordinator for a real estate brokerage in Philadelphia. One of my responsibilities is monitoring my company’s Facebook pages as well as all of our real estate agents’ Business Pages. Facebook is one of the main platforms agents and our company uses to advertise new listings, open houses and broker events in the city. This is how many agents receive their leads and those people then become their clients.
The calendar integration would be perfect for real estate agents since they have multiple clients, showings, open houses and events. I agree with Ralph about how the calendar integration would be helpful to keep track of events agents would be attending. My company’s websites also have a chat bot, so it would be very beneficial to add this to their Facebook pages as well.

Thanks, Erin. I personally only use Facebook as a photo archive and to keep in touch with some family members, but some of these features make me want to dust off the app and begin actively using it again. I think the event calendar syncing and reporting is a very interesting concept for businesses. My company uses other platforms such as ConstantContact and Cvent for event software and analytics, but I think this would be a great feature for businesses with large followings on Facebook. also think the dating feature will help adults meet other singles in safer and more personal way.

Great post Erin!. Like Danielle and Ralph, I use Facebook to stay in touch with family members. I do not typically post on my Facebook account but I do use it to create events if I am planning some type of event or trip with friends. It is the easiest way for me to manage RSVPs and reach out to everyone invited at one time. The new features sound interesting but I do not see my department utilizing Facebook for appointment booking or calendar management. It is more efficient for us to just use Outlook for that. I can see how it would be beneficial for other business that already utilize Facebook to connect with their customers. I’m interested to see how Facebook as a dating application works out. I could see it being successful for users that regularly use Facebook.

Hi Ralph! I am impressed you enjoy running. I used to be a big runner, but have had a hard time getting back into it. It is such a nice way to clear your head and relieve stress. I am hoping I can get back into it one day soon!

Hi Katie! I LOVE watching the Harry Potter movies. I hope your kids did too! Embarrassingly, I’m hoping I can go visit Harry Potter world one of these days. I am hoping I can channel an inner Hermione as we progress through this program.

Hi Aksana! Traveling is delightful and I wish it were completely free, then I would do it all of the time! I love all kinds of movies, especially movie series such as Harry Potter, the Lord of the RIngs, etc. I also love a good Netflix series session and finding a new show to try! I’m always open to suggestions if you have any!

I think a government policy that standardizes the terms and conditions of how marketers use our data is a great idea! Some standardization could be a helpful way to help consumers understand how their data is being used. Additionally, common language amongst terms and conditions would be less confusing for consumers to understand.

Similarly, as I read “What Your Car Knows About You,” I was alarmed by the personal data being collected on consumers. I was particularly concerned because the article mentioned that many consumers do not know that their information is being tracked. Until companies are required to simplify the language they use in terms and conditions, I think…[Read more]

When I was researching to write this post, I came across the GDPR. From what I gathered, California’s law is similar to the GDRP, but it did not include all of the same regulations. Thank you for the further explanation of GDPR. I think consumers deserve further explanation of what data is being collected on them. It should be presented in a…[Read more]

This is a fantastic example of how confusing “terms and conditions” can be! In my opinion, you went above and beyond what most consumers do to try to figure out how Mazda is using your data. It is unacceptable to me that you had to search for 30 minutes and still do not have an answer to your question. All of this confusion and additional effort…[Read more]

Wow! It sounds like Temple is already a step ahead with the use of VR. I completely agree, it would have been a fascinating way to learn when I was in my undergraduate program as well. Dan, I really appreciate this comment. I did not think about student’s confidence levels. From my past experiences working with students with special needs, some students have confidence issues because they struggle academically, like you mentioned. The use of VR could be a wonderful way to help these students find a more comfortable environment…[Read more]
