Nice post Hilary! I had no idea that there was a current shortage of food for pets, even though I used to be a pet owner- it’s kind of interesting how once you lose a pet you instantly lose interest in all the relevant markets for pets until you get another one. Hopefully this shortage will end soon, because I’m pretty sure switching different…[Read more]

Hi Demi,
Interesting read. I for one am in favor of the ban against plastic bags but absolutely see where new problems may arise because of it. Evidently, I wonder how many efforts were put into place in making plastic bags even more biodegradable? Not to mention, maybe even make the move to go from plastic back to paper bags that aren’t as much of a liability?
Also, the idea of an app that can match those to a proper waste bin sounds intuitive, but might not register to those who don’t use them in the first place. I also agree with your stance that the city could even use more of these bins to go around.
Alas, the cities trash problem seems to hurt areas the further we stray from center city, and we can only hope that this new ban does not backfire!

Hi Demi!
I didn’t even realize that Philadelphia was starting on this ban. I live on the outskirts of Philadelphia, in the suburbs, where we still use plastic bags. However, when I visited New York City the other day, I was surprised when I went to the mall and had the cashier ask me if I will like to pay $0.10 for a bag. I know what you are thinking, $0.10 isn’t that much. But I was surprised to even hear that I had to pay not being used to a cashier asking me to pay for a bag. However, it was raining that day so I had no choice but to pay for the bag.
In my household we also save all of our plastic bags and use them for trash disposal or storage purposes ( and we use every bag). Maybe instead of banning plastic bags completely, Philadelphia can do a similar system like the city. This can make people use less plastic bags and make them more inclined to keep using them afterwards.

Hi Demi,
As an iPhone user, I am happy with this update and I appreciate Apple’s efforts to ensure my privacy. As a marketer, however, I’m obviously not so happy. I know how data is important to the customer experience and without it, it adds a barrier but I believe a good marketer can truly rise to the challenge. I like what you said about how this will force companies to be more transparent about how they’re using data and I think that’s their best bet in getting customers open to sharing your data. Companies can run entire campaigns just about data alone, it’s honestly another opportunity to make transparency and essential part of their brand.

Having to translate a title to better suit an entirely different language is interesting, it’s not something we often think about. The same way english speakers have their metaphors and slang, other languages do as well- and culture is often very influential in the way we process things like titles. I don’t think it matters what ranking of title…[Read more]

Using AI for legal court cases is a brilliant idea. I tend to listen to a lot of true crime podcasts and have found a lot of cold cases struggle due to the fact there is just too many cases and too much information to anaylze. When using AI, I think it’s important to acknowledge that an AI can only do as much as it’s programmed to do- so it…[Read more]
