I am a regular user of LinkedIn for the company I work for and I believe it’s time for a change. LinkedIn is kind of the ugly stepchild of social media. There’s nothing “sexy” about job hunting or networking and LinkedIn hasn’t done a good job at making it appealing (design wise). I have noticed some changes with their Sales Navigator Tool, but…[Read more]

I’m glad you brought this up, Ryan. A lot of companies sacrificed quality for efficiency because they want to deliver their products faster to their customers. The risk that comes with that is losing your loyal customer fan base. Wawa, in this case, has expanded tremendously over the past couple of years which is great, but now there are more…[Read more]

Love this post! I too am a frequent Target Shopper, and surprisingly I was not in a Target when this happened. I saw several tweets about it on Twitter and from what i gathered there really wasn’t a solid explanation as to why. My question was why didn’t they have a back up process for issues like this. When I worked in retail when our system would go down we had ways of combating these issues. Granted we still lost customers but we were still able to help some. Interesting post!

Come on Target, get your act together. We need you! I am baffled that such a large, forward-thinking corporation has these types of struggles. Very interesting post Crystal!

Awesome post! I haven’t heard about ‘STORY’ and it’s not something that will bring me into Macy’s. The only time I went to a store for a specific product offering was the Target x Lilly Pulizter collab that happened in store. Typically what brings me into a store is the experience. I’m sure most people will agree with me when I say that shopping…[Read more]

Having representation on the executive level would definitely help! No one wants to be ‘that’ person because it can ultimately lead to tension with your coworkers which can then lead to possibly losing your job. There have been many times where I wanted to speak up on certain situations but I did not feel like I have the support from the executive…[Read more]

Thanks for sharing with me the agencies that are trying to fight against that stigma! I worked for an agency before and on my second day working there, I was tasked with doing a voiceover for a client. I was told to channel my inner Danielle Brooks (Tasty from Orange is the New Black) and obviously I’m not an actor so it was difficult for me. The…[Read more]

I’m a huge advocate for online banking. I almost never carry cash so I’m a huge user of Cash app, Venmo, Google Pay, and Zelle. I think it’s interesting how a lot of those companies are now implementing their own debit card for purchases. Have you looked into Ally Bank? I’ve seen commercials promoting the app, but I haven’t looked into opening an…[Read more]

This is a great point! I will have to play devil’s advocate and say that sometimes (using that word very lightly) having the right personality will make you successful in your career. Hey Crystal,
I completely agree that the lack of diversity is at the root of this issue. However, I also think that GroupThink is to blame. People try to minimize conflict by just going with whatever the majority thinks. I’m sure someone sitting in the conference room is thinking, “oh no, this is all wrong”, but won’t speak out in fear of being iced out. I always think, hmmm there’s no way the designers at Gucci didn’t realize the implications that the “sweater” would have, especially because of their recent relationship with Dapper Dan. Do you think having representative individuals on the executive level will decrease these instances, or will they fall victim to GroupThink?

Hey Crystal,
Thanks for sharing this. I had not heard of the Angry Orchard App. I always found cider to be interesting because I was never clear on who they were competing with – beer or wine. The idea of pairing really brings in the wine aspect. And I like how they are incorporating technology into the drinking experience. This seems to be a trend for alcohol companies that are trying to appeal to the millennial market. 19 Crimes wine has the AR experience with their label and I found this article on how many liquor companies are marketing it as a experience vs a drink – http://fortune.com/2017/06/21/liquor-makers-brands-experiences/

Good point! Hulu Live showed the same ads that were on cable tv. I would assume that because of the high cost of the ad space, whether viewers are streaming or watching cable television, they should still the same exact ads. I would have to look further into that.

I agree, I hate the 5-second lag with streaming, even when the quality gets disrupted. I did notice a couple of hiccups in the service, but it honestly didn’t affect me because it was such a boring game!

I’ve had both services. I really love the usability of the Comcast X1, but their customer service is absolutely the worst experience. They really need to fix their process of customer service, because their product is good, but their reputation in the market place is hurt tremendously by their customer service. If they did, I would more than likely switch back to Comcast. I don’t have many issues with Fios on the flip side, but once you have the awesome usability of Comcast X1, you are just left wanting to go back.
