In a time where social media is pretty much a way of life, some brands have decided to go against the norm and “go dark”. To “go dark” on social media, means to stop posting, engaging, and following on social […]

Elaina,
Thanks for this post! Often times when I receive push notifications, it is because of my current location. For example, Yelp sends a push notification to my phone when I’m visiting a new city. The app automatically recommends places for me to eat based on my reviews. I only find it useful when I’m visiting a new city or state, but a maj…[Read more]

Thanks for this great post Nichole! I did not hear of this event, but the fact that Netflix made sure that the diner was fully equipped for the targeted demographic that would be visiting is very interesting. Most brands do not go the extra mile to make the event meaningful and capable for social media. You did a great job at analyzing the KPIs…[Read more]

Yue,
Nice post! I love that you brought up the multiple accounts for Lyft. I always wondered if it’s best to have multiple accounts that served different purposes. Their support account, @AskLyft, is a common account for most businesses to have, but I love how Lyft actively engages with their @lyftdesignteam account. Lyft allows for the…[Read more]

Christine,
Thanks for bringing up this topic! This reminds me of the Instagram page for Fashion Nova. They offer women’s— and now men’s, clothing at a discounted rate. They were one of the most searched brands next to luxury brands like Gucci, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton in 2017. You would assume that Fashion Nova is another luxury brand, but i…[Read more]

You made great points Katie! I still only download apps for the convenience behind it. 85% of the time, I’m on the go and I need an app that can seamlessly fit into my “on-the-go” mentality. I will have to admit, it wasn’t until I was accepted into the DIM program, that I started to analyze the “why” behind mobile apps. This helped me decide which…[Read more]

Ryan,
I have to agree with you. When I first managed social media accounts, I didn’t have a need for a program to schedule my posts in advance. As I was gathering more insights and knowledge into social media marketing, I then discovered how much planning went into being a Social Media Manager.
After 3 years with one account, other…[Read more]

Hi Crystal – I am a user of Zoodoc and found the experience pretty seamless however there were a few hiccups I encountered. Picking the right insurance plan from a long list was difficult causing confusion and booking a problem.. (even though I may have forgotten the title of my plan), But overall, I did like the experience and implementing an agile process (if adopted) could potentially bring those options into market quicker.

I have heard of ZocDoc but never used it, I’ll have to check it out but will keep your feedback in mind as I make my way through it. I need a new Dr. Mine was linked to Drexel /Hahnemann and left the area about 6 weeks ago. I suspect he knew something about what was going to happen with the hospital and found a more secure place to practice. It is a great tool and I can definitely see the need, but user experience is important and there is always room for improvement.

This was great Ryan! I’m constantly conducting A/B testing for our social media pages because I’m on a one-person team, myself. I found it to be extremely beneficial when I meet with corporate and I discuss what improvments should be made. Without A/B testing, I can’t see what’s working or what we need to improve on for our digital presence. It’s…[Read more]

Hi Crystal! Thank you for sharing. I actually forgot what the old Instagram logo looked like. The updated boomerang logo was much needed – the old logo was almost too literal. As you mentioned, they are always updating features in their app so it was only natural for them to make an update to the logo. As the app gained more popularity it was time for them to rebrand and introduce the new colors. The colors in the logo make it stand out more than the neutral colors so it could catch the eye of someone scrolling through the app store. I think the old logo was a bit outdated so the logo face lift was necessary.
-
Hi Crystal, I agree with Akasha. Instagram and many other companies like Trulia and LinkedIn are giving a face-lift to their brand..This offers a great marketing opportunity that also allows them to minimize the gap from other target markets. Recently, I came across the a stat that was very interesting – “it only takes 10 seconds for consumers to formulate a first impression of a logo.”

I had instagram before the logo change and after and I was upset about the change. I think that it would be considered dated and would maybe not even be as popular as it is today. I recently noticed that Facebook has updated their logo on the IOS store and it is very similar to the look of instagrams. I wonder if that is due to a lot of people associating facebook with older people and not being as current when it comes to news like twitter or instagram. Although I agree with Akasha that the more it grew in popularity it was time for a change. It does make me wonder though if I was only upset because I was use to that logo and layout and because it changed it made a difference for me but for people who had never experienced instagram they had nothing to compare it to.

This is some great insight and I’m experiencing nostalgia looks at the old versions of Apple Music/iTunes. I’m actually in-between loving Apple Music and hating it.
