Hi, Braden! Thanks for posting this. I love the phrase in the article that VR can be an “empathy machine.” It fits so well with what I was trying to say about using VR to break down barriers around the church. This paragraph was particularly meaningful to me:
“to show supporters exactly what an eight hour walk to pick up dirty – and potentially deadly – water actually looks like. Scott has been able to take a couple of hundred people to Ethiopia to show them the harsh reality of life there. With VR he could take hundreds more, putting them directly in the shoes of a 13-year-old girl who’s walk for water ended her life.” Right now we have a limited capacity to involve people in the good that we do and inspire them to join us in our work. Great post!

What a terrific use for VR and an innovative way to use VR at a live event as normally the experience is a very individual one. Thanks for sharing that.

I would have always assumed that Foursquare was only using check in data for things like this and not actual location data. You have to wonder where this blurs the lines since background location data is being collected, when you would think your manual check-in is what validates that you are ok with Foursquare knowing where you are.

Your article reminded me of how hard it used to be to find good user generated content.
I remember as instagram was gaining traction you could only search and view within the app which made it super difficult to really identify influencers and brand lovers.
In 2011, a company called statigram made a deal with instagram to gain access to…[Read more]

Thanks Gennie. I will be curious as well to see how Twitter utilizes this strategy.
They obviously need to establish who they are and the value they bring to users.

This is interesting Braden, I honestly didn’t even know Vine was still a thing. Hopefully with the closure of this department Twitter will be able to take the time to revamp their platform because I feel like less and less people are using Twitter these days. I know at my job Twitter is the last platform I focus on when it comes to social media and I usually only use it as a social listening tool.

I have been following the buyout rumors and it’s funny how these companies throw there name into the ring and then decide to back out one after the other. I think Salesforce would have benefited from making an offer since they probably wish they would have gotten LinkedIn.
People still think google is going to try and snap them up for a lot…[Read more]

Hi Braden,
Great post. I love the layout and simplicity of your post. It is so instantly digestible and easy to quickly read and enjoy. I think I need to employ some of your tactics in my future posts!
Your content choices are all very compelling. A great combination of humor and nostalgia (like those in your first two examples) always makes me pause at least, if not click. I actually DID click on the third example, just to find out what the song was. Shocking. I never would have guessed it…

I totally agree with all your points. I took on a new roll where the previous manager didn’t do well on the “checking in” side. After the initial kick off meeting there wasn’t much follow up even during key times when milestone dates were coming up.
I have made sure to start getting ahead of their due dates and make sure they have what they…[Read more]
