Does Anyone Else Remember the Covid Madness?

July 28, 2021 By Maddie Donnelly 1 Comment

Seeing as its almost August 2021, it’s nearly been a year and 5 months since the Covid pandemic started. Does anyone even remember how crazy the things we did not too long ago to help prevent the spread of Covid-19. As the news continued to let the world know how dangerous this virus was and how contagious it became, the world fell into a pandemic and a worldwide shut down to socially distance. The process of everything changed, especially for grocery shopping, which was essential to be open.

Thankfully due to being in the 21st century and technology always growing and changing, grocery stores and third party businesses were able to prevent people from even having to enter the store. Option 1 would be to physically go into the grocery store and shop for yourself. Second would be to instacart or have your groceries delivered to your house. Third would to pickup your own groceries in which you ordered to be prepackaged for you.

The CDC mandated masks to be worn when entering inside and sometimes those grocery stores would reinforce or refuse service. According to Riversideonline, with a few tips, they too recommend to wear a mask, and bring some clean wipes and hand sanitizer to use on the cart one would be using (1). Now amongst the change over time, businesses will have employees dedicated to sanitizing each individual cart and basket, as well as self check out stations. When one does check out, it was easier to use a card because it was always you using it, unlike with cash it was going from one person to the next to the next. If you didn’t know, even before covid, cash was very dirty and unsanitary due to that reason.

Then it all came down to unpacking the groceries. Different experts mentioned and recommended different ways to handle unpacking groceries. Even though covid was an airborne virus, however, since it was so new and contagious, it was possible to catch covid from surfaces (1). Instead of what we would normally do, some would wipe down all the groceries they had bought, and my family was one of them.

Looking back this far, with covid still being a threat but under control a bit due to vaccines, and life is slowly opening back up, it’s crazy to think how much us humans changed our day too day lives just so we could safely get groceries without catching covid.

Did any if you go as far as. to wipe down your groceries like my family did?
