MAC Cosmetics is one of the most recent beauty brands to launch augmented reality mirrors inside of their stores. In 20 of their retail stores nationwide, MAC finally got on board with the most recent fad in the beauty retail industry—augmented reality. They recently installed 2-3 mirrors at a few locations which will eventually roll out to every single store in the United States. Having a global approach, they will be rolling this out to their global stores as well.
Modiface is a company where beauty brands are going to for augmented reality experiences, especially for their mirrors and ipads. Currently, Modiface is working with 84 beauty brands to bring augmented reality to life with their products. To make sure that the users face is accurate on the Modiface technology, it maps out their faces 30 times per second to piece by piece every single pixel with the beauty color that aligns with a product. Augmented reality is working really well with customers who don’t like going into the stores and have an associate talk to them. (This goes for the beauty apps at least).
Thanks to the Modiface mirrors, these specific miriors have increased sales by a 31 percent average across of the brands that they are working with. One of the best parts of having these mirrors installed, is that they can really discover the shopping habits on their customers. Whether it’s their favorite shades or their go to brands, Modiface can see what customers are loving, especially in different demographics.
To start, MAC Cosmetics launched its top 20 most popular products in their mirror try on experience. Soon, they will expand to full face looks, where customers can try on all of their makeup assortment. If a customer wants to keep the content they are creating in the store or on their mobile device, they can save a photo or a GIF and even post it on their own social media platforms. This might be something that brands can use across their platforms to show off User Generated Content in a certain way, with the rights to the photos of course from the customer.
This new technology is extremely easy to install and use, the only part that times time is getting the in store employees up and running so that they can explain the system and talk about the products to align.
