While working on our my ideal candidate for a social media manager, I started to think about whether or not my organization should consider having an individual dedicated to our social media. Currently, we have 4 communications specialist, one of whom posts on our social channels in addition to several other duties and responsibilities. I wondered if there would be benefits to shifting this individual’s role strictly to social media. This position would spearhead our social media strategy efforts and ensure a consistent presence that makes business sense to our organization.
I’ve compiled a list of the top 5 benefits of having a social media specialist.
Impact the Entire Organization
Social media has something to offer every department with the organization. Communications and Marketing are not the only that benefit from a strong social media presence. Effective social media can influence current and future employees and customers. A social media specialist can ensure that all your departments benefit from social media channels.
Keep a Pulse on Current Trends
Social media has changed and continues to change how we communicate, share, connect with brands. Having a dedicated social media specialist will allow your organization to remain up-to-date on the latest trends and statistics. The social media specialist would know the best hashtags to use, the ideal post/channel to maximize engagement. He/she would also provide guidance on new algorithms and best practice. This highly-valued team member will possess intimate knowledge and insight, which can keep your brand relevant in the every changing social media space.
Maintain a Consistent Voice
Having different team members create messaging across various social platforms can cause confusion for an audience. Effective organizations have a social media specialist or manager to ensure branding content is custom to each platform, while maintaining consistency of message and design. This individual understand the organization goals and can develop content and channel strategy that aligns. Your audience will grow familiar with your voice, and you can build more brand trust and awareness.
Execute a Plan
Organizations cannot be casual about their social media strategy. The approach needs to be well-thought out and formalized strategy. A social media specialist can shift an organization from the “post and pray” or “set it and forget it” to a strategic plan that works in tandem with marketing efforts. According to Maxbust, “A social media manager can create and execute a content plan and manage a posting schedule. Social media works like search engines now, and you want to be ready with the right message at the right time.” The execution of a clear strategy will encourage more customer engagement and generate more leads.
Monitor Organizational Performance
Metrics are a large part of social media. The social media specialist can monitor and report on performance analytics. He/she will know how to analyze every aspect of your social media presence and provide insights and adjust your social media strategy as needed in order to continuous improve your activities and engagement. These insights will help you understand how your content/channel strategy are meeting your organization’s goals and objectives. This is a vital step because it ensures your business isn’t wasting time and money by focusing on ineffective strategies.
In conclusion, they are some many reasons why it pays to invest in creating a position for social media specialist to maintain brand identity and connect with your organization’s audience on social media. I’ll be using this research to create a proposal, encouraging my organization to make the investment. If you don’t have a social media specialist on your team, you should too.
