Joseph Charles Epstein is a designer, inventor musician and chef.  He is a start-up veteran with experience in transforming a vision into a business operation.  Epstein graduated from Parsons School of Design, focusing his studies on gamification and its relation to a socially connected world. He has worked in the market research industry analyzing cooking systems from a game theorist’s perspective.  His latest project, Chef X is a social gaming platform that teaches food enthusiasts how to cook, while building a sense of competition and community as they play.

Jim Bowen, Epstein’s business partner, brings more than 30 years professional experience managing international businesses.  He is experience in complex contract negotiations and project management. Bowen has developed and managed businesses in Sydney, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Shanghai.  His specialities focus on retail, leisure and entertainment project development.

 


Project Selection | Chef X

Our goal is to change the marketplace’s mindset around learning how to cook through interactive technology applications. Epstein developed the concept for Chef X, a social gaming experience, from his previously designed guitar teaching system, Rocksmith™, acquired by Ubisoft in 2015. Rocksmith is an interactive game that teaches people how to play guitar.  Simply put, Joseph created Rocksmith™ to teach people how to play guitar easily, in a fun, interactive way.  Rocksmith™ has sold 3 million copies to date, supporting Epstein’s next venture to teach people how to cook through interactive gaming.The purpose of Chef X is to provide a fun way to cook like a professional chef. Epstein wants Chef X to do for cooking enthusiasts what Rocksmith™ has done for guitar lovers.

 

 

 


Project Scope

We will work with Epstein to craft the development and implementation of a digital strategy plan that will support the Chef X mobile application. Our scope of work is limited to the following:

  • Define the opportunity: Gaming and people’s interests in cooking
  • Conduct current competitive market analysis
  • Conduct user research and analyze customer journeys
  • Develop digital strategy plan to support Chef X app development and launch
  • Create prototype and/or wireframes to demonstrate key aspects of the application

This project’s completion will result in a complete marketing plan/digital strategy to support the Chef X application’s development and launch.  Given the platform is still in its infancy, Epstein will use our findings and recommendations  to pitch the Chef X concept to potential investors and to execute an multi-channel marketing strategy once its ready to hit the digital marketplace.
