As a digital brand manager and a graphic designer, it is essential to properly manage client projects; Another hat that I wear is a project manager hat. When managing clients’ brands, often there are multiple design tasks that need to be completed on the same date – especially for an event or launch. Many times tasks overlap or depend on another task. Managing the project requires evaluating task dependency and the critical path. Using these tools will help ensure that the project stays within budget, stays on schedule, and stays within scope – the three constraints of project management.
The tools also allow for clarity and transparency with clients. As Lauri Bingham said on a Projectified with PMI Podcast, it is to be remembered that project management not only requires hard skills, but also the soft skills of a manager. Clients and all project stakeholders should be guided through each tasks’ process and it’s gravity within the entire project with a critical path analysis. They also need encouragement and updates on time and budget constraints. Any changes to the scope will likely affect the budget or schedule.
