Photography
Photography has been a consistent interest for the past few years, however, it is one that I don’t get to enjoy as often as I’d like. With busy schedules, I haven’t had much of an opportunity to get out in the world and shoot. My favorite thing to photograph is nature. The world is a beautiful place and I thoroughly enjoy seeing the world through my lens.
Running
Running has been a fairly new interest as I only began training a year ago. I have walked a handful of 5k races in my years and decided that I wanted to give my try at running one. This drive sparked my initial training to run the first annual Flyers Charity Classic. I trained for about 2 months prior to the race which was held in July of 2017. After completing my first 5k run I found a “love” for running. Although it’s a love-hate relationship sometimes I enjoy getting out an seeing the world from a different perspective.
Yoga
When I need to de-stress or set an intention for my day, I turn to yoga and my breath. I have always wanted to get into yoga but never did until semi-recently. I began by joining community yoga practices at my local gym and slowly incorporated practices found online. Meditation, although similar, has become something that I try to do daily even if for only a minute. This interest has taught me a lot about myself and how to stay calm during stressful situations. I would like to someday soon obtain my certification in yoga so that I can not only enjoy the practice but also teach. I have begun looking into programs and studios to achieve this goal.
Dance
Dance is not only an interest but a huge part of my life. I began dancing at the age of 3 and have continued to pursue this passion to this day. I started my dance career in your typical dance studio. Upon high school graduation, I had no idea what my dance career would look like. After a year at college and a break from dancing, I quickly realized that I needed to get back into dance. I auditioned and made the team for the Temple University Diamond Gems and was an active member for my final three years of undergrad. Post-graduation my career became professional as I joined the Philadelphia Flyers Ice Girls team. Currently, I am back at Temple University as the Diamond Gems Assistant Coach. I hope to one day open my own dance studio.
Hi Amanda, I enjoy photography as well. Do you keep an online portfolio of your work? There are so many platforms one can use nowadays to share content; do you have any photography websites you like to visit or find useful? -Matt
Hi Matt! I have a very old portfolio and on an old WordPress site but I can’t seem to remember the URL. If I do, I’ll send it along! I find most of my inspiration on Instagram and sometimes even Pinterest. What is your style of photography like?
Hey, Amanda! I have also recently become passionate about running. Like you, I’ve dabbled in the past, but in the past 8 months I have really delved into it. Do you use a running tracker app to keep track of your run distances and times? I use Asics Runkeeper app and like it. They recently replaced their original My Asics app with this and it is much improved. Let me know if you have any other suggestions!
Hi Emily! I also use Asics Runkeeper and love it! However, if you’re looking to train for a specific race or distance, the app Running for Weight Loss is great for interval training. I hope this helps and I can’t wait to hear more about your running journey. Now we can hold each other accountable for running once a week 😉 haha
