Dream Job

The biggest question I get from my family and employers is what is my dream job. For the longest time I had no answer to that question, but I am slowly figuring out that answer. For the longest time, I dreamed of being a photographer and having my own business, so that is what I planned on going to college for, until the Tyler School of Art here at Temple University, makes you submit a portfolio of everything art related. Drawing, painting, sketching, photography, etc.. Well, I can’t draw for my life, so all I had for the portfolio to submit was my photos. So, after a lot of consideration and tears, I decided to just go in as an undecided student at Temple. My dreams were crushed because for the longest time, I had my future figured out.

Fast forward to the end of my sophomore year when you need to pick a major, I once again was in tears because I had no idea what I wanted to do now that photography was out of the picture. So I ended up taking a tour of the Klein College of Media and Communication. When I told you I fell in love… I  FELL IN LOVE. This was the next best thing to photography. I ended up picking the MSP major which is Media Studies and Production. It was like the best of both worlds for me. I got the learn the audio and production side of things, along with some communications and social media aspects.

At the time, I was looking for a job where I could get more experience in the media/production world and that is when I landed my part time job at the radio station, WXTU. I once again, FELL IN LOVE. I got to work all my favorite concerts and events that WXTU promoted and even

got to meet some of my favorite artists. I knew I wanted to work in this industry from the day I started there. I worked my butt off to meet all the CEOs of Beasley Media Group and also landed my internship with them at their sister station, BENFM. I thought to myself, you got this, you are in now, you are working for two stations now…. But things don’t always happen like that right?…. Well then COVID happened and we were all laid off. I cried for days…. All my hard work of making it to the top came crumbling down and my shot at working at this company was no longer there. I WAS CRUSHED!!! Once again my plan for the future was at a standstill.

Fast forward to graduation in May of 2020, I had no plans for after graduation. My plans for the future were crushed and I had to find a new path again. So, I ended up nannying for about 8 months and starting my own little photography business on the side, until March of 2021, when I got offered a job at a pharmaceutical doing some admin and marketing work. Things were starting to look up for me. THEN!!!!! In May, I got a call from WXTU asking if I would come back to work for them part time again. I WAS JUMPING UP AND DOWN!!!! I got my job back at WXTU! MY DREAM JOB!!!

I am so happy that this opportunity opened back up for me because now I have two jobs in the marketing field that I LOVE. I have my love for photography still in my life, and my love for marketing and promotions. The idea of working two jobs is definitely not IDEAL… But things will fall into place and I can actually say I think I found the field that my dream job is in.
