As discussed in class, “What’s More Valuable: Your Time or Your Privacy”, sparked a recent situation that happened to me.
As a frequent customer to Rite-Aid, a local drug store in my area, specifically my neighborhood. The convenience of typing in my phone number and automatically receiving savings that I was not aware of, felt like hitting the lottery.
However, upon my last visit I was informed that I can no longer input my phone number to receive any type of savings. I am now required to download the app, in order to continue to receive these types of benefits. As a customer, I instantly felt irritated because of the following:
- Another app on my phone
- More time spent via pre-shop
- To receive savings, this needed to be done. Requirement
Quite honestly, for the first month, I did not download the app and felt like I was missing out on the savings.
Since Rite-Aid is so close in proximity to my house, this is my go to” for all things from food, prescriptions, cleaning supplies-you name it. If I need it in a timely manner, though I know the mark up is higher here on some items than other brick and mortars, it doesn’t matter. It is convenient for me to shop here.
Due to FOMO, inflation, and the opportunity to have a little more cash in my pocket I now have another app download on my phone.
Would love to know your thoughts:
- Do you feel overwhelmed with apps?
- What specific criteria (if any) determines what apps that you download/use?
