Mobile and My Pets

September 8, 2019 By Emily Broxton Leave a Comment

I never thought I would be one of those obnoxious “dog moms” that you see everywhere nowadays.  But, within the past year, two adorable little pups fell into my arms and now, admittedly, I’m one of them.  Everyone tells you about how pets can change your life, but nobody really talks about the stress of not being able to see them when you’re at work all day, until — the pet camera.

On Prime Day I decided that my big purchase would be a camera that would allow me to not only see my dogs while I’m at work, but also would let me communicate with them (ie: stop them in their tracks if they’re chewing something they shouldn’t be).  The mobile app that links to the camera also lets me pan 360 degrees around the room, move the camera up and down, and zoom in and out.  It even allows me to activate night vision, and if my dogs are doing something REALLY cute, I can record it.  It totally puts me at ease when I’m running a few minutes late and can simply click on my app and see that my dogs are having fun playing (and not being miserable and bored, as I would have assumed prior to having gotten the camera).

There are many types of this kind of device that are made possible by mobile technology.  Some even allow you to dispense treats through the apps (although I’ve heard some critics say that this is confusing and anxiety-inducing to dogs).  Ellen DeGeneres is a huge advocate for Furbo, probably the most popular of this type of technology on the market, that sends alerts when your dog is barking.  This allows your dog to be a great home security system and alert you even when you’re not at home!  On their website they include testimonials, and real footage, of people, homes, and dogs saved by Furbo’s technology and its mobile capabilities.  All of these features truly bring me peace of mind and are a testament to how mobile can transform not only the way we live our lives, but the quality of our lives.
