A team and I entered in the AIS Com Society Internet of Things Case Study Challenge. We wrote a 15 page paper titled, “Internet of Things in Apparel Retail: Foot Traffic, Experience, Sales”. In this paper, we defined Internet of Things and how multiple Internet of Things devices used in tandem can create a network effect, thereby creating a value beyond just the sum of their parts. These Internet of Things devices may be used to help physical apparel retail compete with the growing online space. We explained the capabilities of three specific Internet of Things devices (smartphones, RFID, and smart mirrors) and how they are being used in the industry today. We finished by walking through an example where these three devices are used to create a network effect. Our entry won First Place nationally in the Case Study Challenge.
