“3 Podcasts that you need in your life,”
by Melissa Newman
When you are balancing your professional life, school, and everything else in between, it can be incredibly hard to find the time for anything else. However, one of my goals this year was to commit to professional development outside the classroom. As one of the few in my family to receive any college degree, I have always believed that a quality education is a key to setting yourself up for success in life. However, you get out what you put into it.
And as an individual that needs repetition and variety to learn new concepts, I have found myself dedicating at least some part of my day to self-study. Since I work as a Social Media Manager, I tend to favor resources that come from Sprout Social, Buffer, and HubSpot. They write some excellent resources and provide a ton of freebies that you can use to get familiar with and master a topic.
Typically, I enjoy a video, because I consider myself who does best with visual cues and instruction. However, within the past few months, I have gotten heavily immersed in Podcasts. It’s a great way to multitask and still pick-up information and ideas that you can directly apply to work or class.
While I’m driving, writing a case study, or blog post, I’ll often turn on a Podcast as white noise. Recently, I just discovered that Buffer has their Podcast called the “Science of Social Media,” and it is AMAZING. Episodes range from 15-45min and are packed with information. Having trouble quantifying your ROI on your Social Media Campaigns? They have an episode for that. Looking for ways to comprehend on GDPR will affect your company’s marketing processes? There’s an episode for that too! Another great resource is the “The Goal Digger Podcast,” by educator and photographer Jenna Kutcher. If you like your education with a dose of entertainment and inspiration, you have to give their Podcast a try! From tips on Bootstrapping your Start-up or increasing your growth on Instagram, you’ll find it here. For those of you from or within the Philadelphia area, I’d highly recommend “The Better Than Success,” Podcast from Philadelphia’s own Nicole Purvey. This Podcast is an excellent resource for entrepreneurs because it’s a great way to stay abreast of what is going on in the Philadelphia entrepreneur scene.
For my classmates who are fellow Podcast lovers, which ones do you listen to regularly and recommend? I’m always looking for new ones!
